People usually say that the song is about Kurt Cobain, which is probably true but I also believe the song could be interpreted differently.
I think it might be about a guy that has fallen in love with a girl and their relationship just has this special kind of spark. Maybe its because they are soul mates or another reason, but the girl eventually becomes distant and leaves him, killing what they had without thinking how it would effect him since he was so in love. Thus the lyrics 'Why did you have to go and let it die?' and 'Did you ever think of me? You're so considerate.'
